Good Shepherd Services is seeking a Part Time Advocate Mentor to join their team in Brooklyn, NY. The role involves providing intensive mentoring and advocacy for adolescents aged 13 to 18 who are on juvenile probation or at risk of out-of-home placement.
About the Role
As an Advocate Mentor, you will work with a cohort of four to six mentees, providing in-home and community support, guidance, and crisis intervention. Your responsibilities include developing healthy communication skills, assisting with decision-making processes, escorting mentees to various engagements, and making referrals to community resources. You will also participate in a rotating on-call schedule and engage in program planning and development.
About You
Required:
- Experience working with court-involved young adults.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, and flexible hours as needed.
Preferred:
- Prior justice involvement.
- Familiarity with Brooklyn and the challenges faced by young adults living in the borough.
- Experience working with families.
- Familiarity with strength-based/youth development principles.
- Bilingual.
