About the Role
As an Assistant Research Scientist, you will play a critical role in conducting birth defects surveillance by receiving and interpreting incoming data reports, entering data into the registry database, and reviewing data for accuracy. You will ensure timely data processing to support public health inquiries and provide accurate counts of New Yorkers with birth defects, which is essential for quantifying service needs within the state population.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, public health, epidemiology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a related degree.
- At least one year of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field.
Preferred:
- Experience in birth defects surveillance or surveillance of other health conditions.
- Familiarity with medical coding systems, such as ICD or BPA.
- Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
