About the Role
As a Canine Behavior Outreach Trainer, you will be responsible for designing and providing low-stress handling training to staff and volunteers, conducting training sessions for staff, volunteers, fosters, and adopters, and creating behavior modification plans for dogs. You will work within the Canine Behavior Team to enhance the quality of life for sheltered animals and ensure successful adoption matches through effective training methods.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
- CPDT-KA (or certification in progress).
- 6 months experience with creating training plans for behavior challenges.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with low-stress handling and force-free training.
- Understanding of positive reinforcement and scientific training methodologies.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.

Animal Care Centers of NYC Individuals from all over the city come to Animal Care Centers every day of the week for reasons as diverse as surrendering pets, reclaiming lost cats and dogs, and adopting new furry family members. We strive to find loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats, dogs, and rabbits, both by adopting animals directly to the public and by partnering with more than 200 dedicated animal placement organizations (our New Hope partners).
