Mental Health Association of Nassau County is seeking a Case Worker (Grant Funded through March 31, 2027) to join their team in Hempstead, NY. The role involves providing comprehensive financial care coordination and benefits support to clients with mental illness.
About the Role
As a Case Worker, you will be responsible for assisting clients in securing and maintaining public benefits necessary for housing stability and financial well-being. You will act as a liaison between clients, MHANC program staff, and external benefit agencies, ensuring accurate documentation and uninterrupted access to entitlements. Your daily tasks will include financial counseling, staff support, and program collaboration.
About You
Required:
High school diploma required; Associate’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
Experience with public benefits systems (SSA, DSS, Medicaid/Medicare, SNAP).
Strong communication, advocacy, and teaching skills.
Preferred:
Prior experience working with vulnerable populations (mental health, housing instability, financial insecurity).
Excellent documentation and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial tracking systems.
