About the Role
As a Command Linguist, you will serve as the primary interpreter for the US Southern Command Headquarters Team, providing interpretation services for senior military leaders during engagements with foreign dignitaries. Your responsibilities will include accompanying leaders on travel, performing simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, maintaining sophisticated vocabularies related to military operations, and translating documents as required.
About You
Required:
- Previous experience being the primary interpreter for a senior principal or group.
- Current Secret security clearance but be eligible for a Top Secret/Specialized Compartmented Information clearance.
- At least 3 years’ experience working with or on the OSD or Joint Staff, a Service Staff, CCMD or Operational Staff, a Defense Agency Staff, or an NGO/IGO Staff.
- Experience working with the military and familiarity with the military lexicon.
- The ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
- Certification of training as an interpreter (consecutive and simultaneous).
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as linguistics, Spanish, Portuguese, history, or area studies.
- A current Tourist Passport with an expiration date more than 6 months away.
Preferred:
- Haitian Creole language skills.
