City of Melbourne is seeking a Communications Officer I - Police Support Services to join their team in Melbourne, FL. This is a trainee position that provides the opportunity to advance to a Communications Officer III position over 18 months.

About the Role

As a Communications Officer I, you will enter a training program designed to prepare you for the role of Communications Officer III. Your responsibilities will include handling emergency dispatch calls, providing public contact support, and completing necessary training and certification requirements within specified timeframes. You will be expected to type at least 40 words per minute and pass various background checks and testing to ensure compliance with Florida Department of Health standards.

About You

Required:

High School diploma or GED.
Experience as a dispatcher or telephone operator, or in a role with public contact in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to type 40 cwpm.
Must meet Florida Department of Health requirements for 911 Public Safety Tele-communicator certification.

Preferred:

Emergency dispatch experience.
Ability to pass Critical testing with a score of 4100 key strokes per hour or better.
