Commonwealth Senior Living is seeking a Cook to join their team in Christiansburg, VA. The role involves preparing, presenting, storing, and dispatching food products for various dining services.
About the Role
As a Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures. Your daily tasks will include preparing meals based on nutritional programs, ensuring quality and safety of food, utilizing kitchen equipment, and maintaining sanitary conditions. You will also assist with training new employees and demonstrate flexibility in filling open shifts as needed.
About You
Required:
- Minimum 1 year of cooking experience required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation required.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling required.
- Ability to lift up to 50lb required.
- Effective communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
Preferred:
- Working experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
