About the Role
The Cook III is responsible for preparing and assembling food for regular and special diets following proper sanitary and food handling procedures. The role includes operating and maintaining food service equipment safely, calculating food quantities using standardized menus and recipes, distributing food safely including driving delivery vehicles when needed, maintaining sanitation of assigned areas, and guiding, training, and overseeing subordinate kitchen staff. The position also involves completing required records and reports, assisting in operational improvements, and participating in disaster response or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities as assigned.
About You
Required:
- Minimum 24 months of work experience in a food service operation.
- Ability to prepare, cook, and assemble food for regular and modified diets following recipes and sanitary procedures.
- Ability to operate and maintain food service equipment safely.
- Ability to guide, train, and oversee subordinate staff in food preparation and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and work in hot and/or cold conditions.
- Ability to speak and read English and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain within 90 days of hire to drive a state vehicle.
- Ability to complete basic math used in cooking and preparation.
Preferred:
- Certification in Food Safety (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
