Google is seeking a Data Center Mechanical and Controls Engineer to join their team in Reston, VA. The role involves leading the commissioning and automation of mechanical systems within mission-critical data center environments.
About the Role
As a Data Center Mechanical and Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end commissioning life-cycle for data center mechanical systems, ensuring validation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) architectures. You will collaborate with design and operations teams to develop automation logic, manage cross-functional partnerships, and oversee the testing and tuning of mechanical plant controls.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in data center or critical facility design, focused on the commissioning of mechanical systems and industrial controls.
- 5 years of experience with Building Management Systems, PLC programming, and SCADA architecture.
- 5 years of experience managing projects in a Design/Build delivery environment for mission-critical facilities.
- 5 years of experience with contractors and site safety teams to ensure commissioning activities align with construction schedules and safety protocols.
Preferred:
- 5 years of experience with data center cooling optimization, thermodynamics, and control logic tuning for large-scale industrial systems.
- 5 years of experience applying advanced engineering principles to critical facility design and troubleshooting.
- 5 years of experience identifying operational risks and navigating technical trade-offs in product development.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive consensus on technical control strategies without formal authority.
- Excellent communication skills.
