Rocket Lab is seeking a Director - Electron Design Engineering to join their team in Auckland, New Zealand, with relocation provided. The role involves leading a high-performing engineering organization responsible for the ongoing evolution of the Electron launch vehicle.
About the Role
As the Director of Electron Design Engineering, you will oversee teams that design, develop, prototype, and test critical rocket components and subsystems. You will drive improvements in performance, manufacturability, production rate, and mission capability while ensuring engineering execution aligns with program, cost, and schedule priorities. Your responsibilities will include leadership, mission-critical decision-making, customer-focused innovation, strategy and planning, driving commercial thinking, and accelerating production.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.
- 10+ years in a complex, safety-critical design engineering environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build, influence, mentor and guide high performance teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience transitioning products from design to high-volume manufacturing.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, NX/Unigraphics, Catia).
- Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA methodologies, and Fault Tree Analysis.
- Experience with Jira workflow management.
