Summary
International Rescue Committee Phoenix is seeking an Education AmeriCorps member to join their Youth Services team in Charlottesville, VA. The role involves supporting newly arrived youth and young adult refugees and immigrants in achieving their personal, educational, and career goals.
About the Role
As an Education AmeriCorps member, you will assist with planning and leading various activities such as after-school sessions, workshops, tutoring, and job shadowing. You will coordinate program volunteers, document attendance, provide transportation, assess needs of families, assist with orientations and school enrollments, recruit mentors, and support clients in enrolling in educational programs.
About You
Required:
- Demonstrated interest in education, working with youth, or social work.
- Strong communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
- Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation.
- Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must commit to one full year of service.
- Must be high school graduates, GED recipients, or working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service.
- Must complete a National Service Criminal History check.
Preferred:
- Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base.
