WSP in the U.S. is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join their team in Lansing, MI, with additional locations including Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, South Bend, and Toledo. The role focuses on environmental consulting with expertise in ESG, climate resiliency, sustainability, and earth sciences.
About the Role
As an Environmental Scientist, you will plan, oversee, and lead wetland delineations and stream assessments for linear and renewable energy projects in the Midwest. Responsibilities include preparing field equipment, mapping, Safe Work Plans, and logistics; performing data entry, analysis, and report compilation; coordinating with governmental agencies such as USFWS, USACE, and EPA; preparing wetland delineation reports and permit applications for federal and state environmental permits; and conducting physically demanding fieldwork involving long hours and traversing various terrains.
About You
Required:
- 3+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments, preferably in Ohio and surrounding states.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.
- Familiarity with USACE wetland data forms, ORAM wetland data forms, and QHEI and HHEI stream data forms.
- Experience with GPS field data collection.
- Plant identification of Midwest vegetation.
- Proficient with data management, organization, and MS Office Suite.
- Ability to work long hours in the field, sometimes up to two weeks per month during peak periods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work.
- Flexibility and adaptability to fast-paced demands.
- Ability to work independently and as part of various teams.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Adherence to WSP's Code of Conduct and health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Preferred:
- Experience as a team member on a wetland delineation crew or familiarity with field assistant responsibilities.
- Experience with ArcGIS, ArcOnline, ArcCollector, ArcGIS Enterprise, Trimble GPS units, and Terrasync software.
- Strong technical writing skills and clear communication.
- Knowledge of USACE 401/404 permitting, Section 10 permitting, and mitigation requirements.
