State of Alaska is seeking a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 (PCN 114286) to join their team in Palmer, Alaska. The role involves leading a crew in research assessment projects focused on Chinook salmon tagging and sampling.
About the Role
As a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3, you will implement research assessment projects as a crew lead at field camps. Your responsibilities will include leading daily tagging and sampling of Chinook salmon, operating and maintaining fish wheels and weirs, ensuring data quality control, and summarizing data for reporting. You will also manage field camp operations and assist with logistics for various projects within the Sport Fish Division.
About You
Required:
High school graduation or equivalent.
Six months experience at the developmental level of fish and wildlife technician or aide, or one year of technical laboratory and/or field experience involving fish or wildlife research.
Preferred:
Experience acting as a lead worker for at least one other person.
Experience operating fish wheels or other fish capture techniques.
Experience operating and maintaining outboard motors and boats.
Experience identifying the five species of Alaskan salmon.
Experience working and living at a remote field camp.
