Tau Motors is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Redwood City, CA. The role involves designing, developing, and commercializing next-generation technology systems for electrification.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and building hardware systems for automotive and energy storage applications. Your tasks will include developing and optimizing designs in 3D CAD software, validating manufacturing feasibility, and integrating mechanical designs with high-voltage electrical systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery and participate in the sourcing process with suppliers.
About You
Required:
1-3 years direct work experience in motor design, thermal management, or onboard charging in automotive and energy storage applications.
Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Strong 3D CAD skills, with proficiency in at least one professional 3D CAD package.
Demonstrated understanding of GD&T.
Experience with component design, analysis, and validation.
Preferred:
Hands-on mechanical fabrication, prototyping, and test experience.
Master or Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant field.
Automotive powertrain experience, especially transmission and EV powertrain systems.
Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for automotive applications.
Experience with electronic control systems.
