California Department of Social Services is seeking Medical Consultant I professionals to join their team in Los Angeles County. This full-time, permanent role involves adjudicating disability benefit applications under Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Medi-Cal programs.
About the Role
As a Medical Consultant I, you will work under the general direction of the Team Manager and collaborate with Disability Evaluation Analysts to evaluate medical evidence and make informed determinations on disability claims. Responsibilities include reviewing case histories, interpreting medical reports, assessing the effects of medical or surgical treatments, establishing medical onset of disability, evaluating severity of impairments, determining applicants' residual functional capacity (RFC), contributing to quality improvement of consultative reports, developing medical panels, and providing training and mentorship to staff.
About You
Required:
- Medical degree and relevant clinical experience to evaluate medical evidence and disability claims.
- Ability to interpret medical records and assess functional abilities based on program guidelines.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with Disability Evaluation Analysts and team members.
- Compliance knowledge of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Medi-Cal program regulations.
- Willingness to undergo and clear a background investigation prior to hire.
Preferred:
- Experience in disability evaluation or related medical consulting roles.
- Experience providing training and mentorship to healthcare or evaluation staff.
- Familiarity with California Department of Social Services mission and guiding principles.
- Ability to support flexible work schedules and adapt to innovative program strategies.
