Baltimore Banner is seeking a News Editor for their Montgomery County newsroom. This role involves leading a team to produce high-quality local journalism that connects the community and holds institutions accountable.
About the Role
As a News Editor, you will direct the day-to-day editorial operations, mentor reporters, edit stories to high standards, foster a culture of excellence and innovation, and identify opportunities for impactful storytelling. You will collaborate closely with the Executive Editor to shape the editorial voice of a new publication in Montgomery County.
About You
Required:
At least 10+ years of newsroom experience, including editorial leadership in a fast-paced, digital-forward environment.
Strong instincts for what makes a great story and how to elevate it across platforms.
Proven ability to manage and inspire journalists, balancing support with high standards.
A collaborative mindset and comfort working across departments.
Preferred:
Familiarity with local journalism and its challenges.
Knowledge of Montgomery County or the greater D.C. region.
