IREN is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer, Data Center to join their remote Texas-based team. The role focuses on leading mechanical design decisions for High Performance Computing (HPC) data center projects, ensuring facilities are future-proofed and high-performing.
About the Role
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide leadership and technical expertise in mechanical design for HPC data centers, including new builds, retrofits, and upgrades. Responsibilities include topology analysis based on computing loads, detailed mechanical design development, equipment selection, reviewing and approving designs, maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, staying updated on HPC data center advancements, and coaching and mentoring engineers and executives.
About You
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 8 years of experience in Data Centers and/or mission critical MEP design, construction, or operations.
High expertise in large-scale water and air-cooled chilled water cooling plant design, including flow diagrams, P&IDs, and sequence of operations.
Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, pumping and compression principles, thermal, energy and HVAC principles, and load calculation software tools.
Experience with MEP systems integration and controls.
Familiarity with relevant ASHRAE Handbooks/Standards, ASPE design handbooks, IPC codes, IEEC codes, and other data center and mission critical facility standards.
Knowledge of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and solutions.
Good leadership and interpersonal skills to lead by influence.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
Self-driven with attention to detail and ability to work with limited direction.
Ability to handle uncertainty and limited resources or information.
Must be able to reliably commute or relocate to Childress, Texas.
Clear Criminal Record Check and pass pre-employment screening including background check and substance testing as required.
Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable but not essential.
