Summary
WEX is seeking a Principal Software Engineer - Data to join their team in Boston, MA. The role involves architecting and shaping WEX's Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform, driving the unification of data acquisition, semantic modeling, and data products.
About the Role
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will architect the DaaS platform end-to-end, establish platform standards, guide technical strategy at scale, mentor engineers, and drive innovation by incorporating modern technologies. You will collaborate across teams to ensure data is trusted and usable across business domains.
About You
Required:
- 12-15+ years of experience in software or platform engineering with a proven track record of building and scaling large-scale data platforms.
- Expertise in distributed systems, data acquisition, and semantic modeling.
- Strong background in data lifecycle management including versioning, auditability, observability, lineage, and reproducibility.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with modern data ecosystems such as streaming (Kafka, Flink), batch (Spark, DBT), storage (Iceberg, Delta), orchestration (Airflow, Dagster), and APIs.
- Demonstrated ability to set cross-domain architectural standards and influence adoption across multiple engineering teams.
