Summary
Drake Software is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support TaxAct, a member of the Taxwell family, focusing on pre-auth, authentication, and early customer experience surfaces to enhance how everyday Americans file their taxes.
About the Role
Lead architecture, design, and delivery of key platform capabilities in pre-authentication and early customer experience areas; drive engineering standards and best practices; collaborate with product and design teams to create scalable solutions; evaluate and prototype new technologies including AI-assisted tools; lead cross-team initiatives from problem definition through implementation; mentor engineering managers and senior ICs; partner with DevOps, QA, and security teams to ensure performance and reliability; model and promote AI-powered development tools and practices.
About You
Required:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience delivering and operating web applications at scale.
- Proven leadership in large technical initiatives across multiple teams, especially in customer-facing or platform-critical areas.
- Strong experience with Vue.js and C#/.NET technologies.
- Deep knowledge of AWS services including compute, storage, messaging, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes for deploying and debugging containerized applications in production.
- Strong understanding of architectural patterns such as REST APIs, service decomposition, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD, observability, and secure development.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on, pragmatic, proactive approach with ability to lead through influence and technical authority.
Preferred:
- Experience in authentication, onboarding, or identity management domains.
- Experience with related technologies like React, Angular, Java, or Go.
- Experience building or integrating AI-assisted development workflows.
- Experience in highly regulated domains such as tax, fintech, or healthcare.
