About You
- Master's degree in biological sciences or related discipline (e.g., microbiology, molecular biology, biodefense, biotechnology).
- 10+ years leading Department of Defense sponsored biological defense research programs.
- 10+ years experience in business development and research program management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with proven ability to lead interdisciplinary R&D teams from concept to execution.
- Deep knowledge of biodefense topics such as threat assessment, nonproliferation, biological surveillance, and medical countermeasures.
- Ability to write technical documents and communicate complex subjects to non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain U.S. government top secret security clearance.
- Ph.D. in biological sciences or related discipline.
- U.S. Military or governmental leadership experience in CBRNE/CWMD or related mission areas.
- Experience working with defense contractors and federal government contracts.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols, bioinformatics tools, and experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, or BSL-4 labs.
- Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threat training and/or operational experience.

The National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska (NU) is one of 15 Department of Defense (DOD)-established University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the United States. UARCs are research organizations within a university or college that are established to provide or maintain essential engineering, research and/or development capabilities through a long-term, strategic relationship with the DoD.
Established in 2012, with the DoD sponsor, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), NSRI helps the Department of Defense and other federal agencies meet evolving national security objectives across all domains by responsively delivering innovative research and solutions while developing the workforce.
The success of NSRI is driven by our collaboration with the University of Nebraska System, providing unique access to academic perspectives and research methods not currently found anywhere else in the DOD. Our research community includes more than 350 researchers in diverse disciplines and state-of-the-art facilities to generate innovative, real-world solutions. Furthermore, projects undertaken from an academic perspective ensures that critical skill sets are nurtured, developed and remain available for sustaining the mission in the future.
NSRI has established and developed a research portfolio to address the research needs and advance the mission of USSTRATCOM and other DOD entities. Working with our sponsors and partners, we generate cutting-edge research solutions in the prevention, detection, protection, response and recovery from threats.
