Summary
SAIC is seeking a Science Applications Programmer to join their team in College Park, MD. The role involves developing, maintaining, modernizing, and expanding workflows for mission-critical weather prediction systems.
About the Role
As a Science Applications Programmer, you will contribute to the development of critical workflow infrastructure for major modeling systems, adhere to operational computing standards, port workflows to new high-performance computing platforms, develop user interfaces for scientists, conduct performance profiling, maintain documentation standards, and incorporate modern software management practices.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years or more experience; Master's degree and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.
- Background in meteorology/NWP, physical sciences, mathematics, or closely related field with demonstrated numerical modeling and related scientific computing experience.
- Proficiency in shell scripting, automation, version control systems (Git), and developing software in a Linux or similar environment.
- Expertise in Python and Fortran, including advanced concepts such as Object-Oriented Programming.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and running Earth system models on high-performance computing platforms.
Preferred:
- Experience with data assimilation (JEDI, SOCA) and ocean and sea ice models.
- Familiarity with scientific data formats (HDF5, NetCDF, GRIB/2).
- Experience with parallel job schedulers (SLURM, PBS) and workflow managers (Rocoto, ecFlow, Cylc).
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
