Summary
WSP in the U.S. is seeking a Senior Professional, Transit and Rail Planner to join their growing Transit & Rail Planning practice in Philadelphia, PA. The role involves supporting complex multimodal transit projects and delivering future-ready transit solutions.
About the Role
As a Senior Professional, Transit and Rail Planner, you will be responsible for planning, analyzing, and evaluating various transit projects, including light rail and heavy rail. Your tasks will include preparing technical reports, conducting data collection, performing site investigations, and collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with equity and sustainability standards. You will also assist in project management and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in transit systems.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or related discipline.
- 5–7 years of relevant experience in transportation planning, rail engineering, or transit system design.
- Experience with multimodal transportation planning, transit operations, service design, or rail infrastructure development.
- Proficiency in transportation modeling, GIS, CAD, or simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
- Strong capability in technical writing, data analysis, and development of planning documentation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Planning, or related field.
- Experience with federally, state-, or locally funded transit/rail projects.
- Familiarity with NEPA processes, environmental reviews, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting business development or preparing proposal content.
- Participation in professional organizations (e.g., APTA, WTS, TRB).
