Summary
Otter.ai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Product) to lead the development and management of scalable web services and infrastructure that support AI-driven products and initiatives.
About the Role
The role involves building and enhancing backend systems using Python and web frameworks like Django, architecting scalable solutions with technologies such as Nginx, Kafka, MySQL, Cassandra, and Redis, collaborating with AI teams to optimize data pipelines and model deployment, developing enterprise-grade integrations including scalable APIs and secure data exchange layers, and communicating technical strategies across teams.
About You
Required:
- 5+ years of experience developing and architecting large-scale web services, preferably supporting AI systems
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
- Strong expertise in databases, distributed systems, backend performance optimization, and backend requirements for machine learning infrastructure
- Expert proficiency in Python or other languages such as Go, Java, or C++
- Extensive experience with web frameworks like Django and integration with MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Cassandra
- Solid understanding of database internals, transactions, indexing, and schema design optimized for AI data workloads
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS, especially those interfacing with machine learning platforms
- Ownership-driven with passion for delivering impactful solutions from conception to deployment
- Substantial production server or equivalent backend experience
- Excellent communication skills, curiosity for technology, and attention to detail
Preferred:
- Familiarity with HTTP, networking principles, and API design patterns beneficial to AI integrations
- Experience with operating systems, particularly Linux, and understanding of their interactions with AI applications and services
