Mclaurin Aerospace is seeking a Softgoods Engineering Technologist to join their JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The role involves designing, developing, and fabricating innovative softgoods for the manned spaceflight program.
About the Role
As a Softgoods Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for creating functional softgoods articles such as stowage solutions and thermal blankets, collaborating with engineers, presenting design concepts, performing sewing machine maintenance, and seeking new manufacturing techniques. You will also need to travel occasionally to other NASA centers for fabrication and installation tasks.
About You
Required:
- Typically requires a HS diploma and 15 years of experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field and 5 years of experience.
- 3+ years' experience in a softgoods lab environment with emphasis in softgoods design and fabrication.
- Demonstrated capability to independently devise solutions to complex design problems.
- Expertise in a wide range of hands-on fabrication including sewing machines and 3D printers.
- Proficiency utilizing Adobe, AutoCAD, and Rhino CAD software.
Preferred:
- BA, BFA, or BS in Industrial Design or equivalent.
- Experienced in aerospace product design processes including ability to read, understand, and create fabrication drawings.
- Experienced with fabricating processes for prototyping and flight softgood products.
- Familiar with the NASA/JSC Softgoods design and development and JETS Engineering Life Cycle processes.
