Summary

Bits to Atoms is seeking a Software Engineer to join a well-funded stealth stage startup focused on low-latency video streaming over real-time networks. The role involves designing and implementing infrastructure for live video streaming with minimal delay to support high-performance remote control of machines.

About the Role

Design and implement low-latency video streaming pipelines from edge devices to operator stations; optimize data transmission over wireless or constrained networks to minimize jitter and packet loss; collaborate with hardware, robotics, and controls teams to ensure streaming performance meets teleoperation needs; integrate transport protocols and encoding/decoding schemes suitable for real-time streaming such as WebRTC, RTSP, and UDP-based systems; monitor and tune performance across heterogeneous network environments; build observability into the streaming layer to detect and respond to latency and quality degradation in real time.

About You

Required:

Strong background in computer networking, particularly in real-time or bandwidth-constrained systems
Experience building or optimizing low-latency video pipelines (e.g., WebRTC, SRT, RTP/RTSP, custom UDP/TCP stacks)
Familiarity with video compression formats (e.g., H.264, H.265) and hardware encoders/decoders
Deep understanding of networking protocols, QoS, NAT traversal, and congestion control
Experience profiling and optimizing streaming systems for performance and reliability
Strong programming skills in C++, Rust, or Go for systems-level development

Preferred:

Prior work on teleoperation systems, remote robotics, or drone video feeds
Experience with cloud gaming infrastructure or AV fleets
Exposure to adaptive bitrate streaming, edge caching, or real-time telemetry
Familiarity with GPU pipelines or hardware-accelerated video streaming
Contributions to open-source networking or media streaming libraries
