About the Role
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for building a dynamic team, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving the product vision for Gusto's Payroll Ledger. Your daily tasks will include interviewing and hiring engineers, conducting regular 1:1s, providing technical leadership, and modeling Gusto's values within your team.
About You
Required:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience with backend systems and native mobile development.
- 2–4 years of engineering management experience including coaching, mentoring, and sustaining high-performing teams.
- Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and debate technical and product tradeoffs.
Preferred:
- Comfort navigating a complex and ambiguous problem space.
- Strong product sense, including the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.

- Competitive salary range of $198k–$247k for San Francisco & New York, and $163k–$204k for Denver.
