Empower is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join their remote-first team, focusing on Empower Cash Advance and Thrive Line of Credit products. The role involves end-to-end ownership of machine learning model development to enhance financial solutions.
About the Role
As a Staff Data Scientist, you will develop and optimize credit risk models and paycheck detection algorithms to reduce loss rates and increase approval rates. You will collaborate with engineering to implement models in production, partner with operations and product teams to align with business strategy, and influence strategic decision-making through data-driven insights.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, finance, mathematics, or related field.
- 6+ years of industry experience in data mining, machine learning, statistical analysis, or predictive modeling.
- Deep expertise in statistics and machine learning techniques including regression, classification, clustering, and optimization.
- Proven ability to build predictive models from scratch.
- Strong programming skills in Python and intermediate to advanced SQL knowledge.
- Experience with machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, LightGBM, XGBoost, SparkML.
Preferred:
- Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch (not required).
