Summary
HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join their Power Delivery team in Madison, WI. The role involves executing structural engineering tasks for high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV.
About the Role
As a Substation Project Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the structural design components of substation projects, including steel structure and foundation analysis & design. You will collaborate with Project Managers and project teams across multiple locations, execute engineering tasks, prepare specifications, assign project tasks to EITs, and ensure quality checks for project deliverables. Additionally, you will mentor junior engineers and participate in project reviews.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board.
- Previous structural engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.
- Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
Preferred:
- Technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects.
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113 and other industry standards.
- Experience using design software like PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical projects.
- Working knowledge of AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
- Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
