Summary
AeroVironment (AV) is seeking a Sr. Systems Safety Engineer to join their team in Simi Valley, CA. The role involves developing and executing a Program-specific System Safety Assessment plan and providing expert advice on system safety for assigned programs.
About the Role
As a Sr. Systems Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for performing and publishing safety assessments, conducting hazard analyses, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You will assist in managing new hazards, liaise with various stakeholders, and lead system safety working groups. Your role will also include writing safety-related design requirements, presenting at design reviews, and developing white papers to support UAS operations.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 8 - 12 years of experience in Systems Safety Assessment/Engineering.
- Proficient in performing hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and failure diagnosis.
- Experience in performing safety assessments in support of FAA certification.
- Strong knowledge of system safety analysis tools and reliability engineering.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in a STEM or related field.
- Experience with UAV/UAS safety assessment.
- A current/active Secret Clearance.
- Flight test experience; FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) is preferred.
