About the Role
The Correction Officer is responsible for maintaining control of the institution to ensure safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Duties include supervising and directing inmate activity, assuring assigned areas are clean, safe, and secure, monitoring and operating security controls and equipment, operating vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation, conducting inmate counts, security rounds, and searches, completing required reports, serving on committees, preventing escapes or security incidents, and using physical force or firearms when necessary to detain or secure inmates.
About You
Required:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver's license for positions assigned to transportation or commercial driver's license if required.
- Successful completion of correction officer assessment within past 24 months or current certification as a correction officer with ODRC.
- Ability to enforce rules and maintain security in a correctional environment.
- Strong skills in corrections, communications, criminology/criminal justice, law enforcement, security, ethics and values, listening, observation, situational awareness, and teamwork.
Benefits
- Starting pay at $24.16 per hour, increasing to $24.86 after 6 months.
- Additional $0.60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shift.
