International Rescue Committee is seeking a Volunteer Adult ESL Instructor to join their team in Elizabeth, NJ. The role involves teaching English language skills to recently arrived adult refugees and immigrants.
About the Role
As a Volunteer Adult ESL Instructor, you will facilitate English language learning for adult refugees and immigrants, using provided curriculum and engaging students in both online and in-person settings. You will design lesson plans, promote core competencies for employment, and create a welcoming environment for diverse learners. The commitment includes teaching classes twice a week for a 10-week session, with a minimum commitment of 6 months.
About You
Required:
- Volunteers must be based in the U.S. and either a U.S. citizen or have U.S. work authorization.
- Experience teaching ESOL/EFL to adults in group settings.
Preferred:
- TESOL certificate or working towards receiving a TESOL certification.
- Familiarity with Zoom and other teaching-related platforms.
- Experience working with adult students from diverse backgrounds.
- Fluency or familiarity with Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, Dari, Haitian Creole, or Swahili.
