Summary
YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Counselor for Crosby Elementary. The role involves inspiring children and building meaningful relationships while ensuring a safe and enriching environment.
About the Role
As a Youth Development Counselor, you will bring energy, creativity, and compassion to before/after-school and day camp programs. Your responsibilities include ensuring safety and supervision of children, guiding positive behavior, leading fun and meaningful activities, modeling YMCA values, supporting daily operations, building strong relationships, and protecting youth by following child-protection policies.
About You
Required:
- At least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting
- TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines

- Clear, positive communication skills
- Ability to engage groups of youth
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to inclusion and cultural competence
